Northern Fields was established by Steven Burgess in February 2011. Quickly word spread about what Steven was doing and Northern Fields were commissioned to cater for variety of exclusive events around the country.
In September 2011, Steven and his crew were asked to cater for an event hosted by Google at a previously disused warehouse in an industrial area of Liverpool. The event was a huge success and Steven was approached by the new tenants of the warehouse to help turn the space into a permanent venue and head up the food and beverage arm of the business; Camp & Furnace was born. It was heralded by the Times Newspaper in 2014 as the second coolest restaurant in Britain and The Observer’s restaurant critic, Jay Rayner, said ‘If I lived within stumbling distance of Camp & Furnace I would lose many nights there’.
Camp & Furnace, under Steven’s leadership, has transformed the food landscape of Liverpool and the introduction of Friday Night Food Slam, Supperclubs, Michelin star chef pop up restaurants and the now infamous ROAST every Sunday. Steven was responsible for managing food sales in excess of 1mil per annum and took control of kitchen management, from supplier relationships, recruitment, stock management and GP management whilst still leading by example and being hands on running a team of up to 50 staff.
Northern Fields are still the exclusive event caterer for Camp & Furnace and are uniquely placed to continue to deliver exciting and fun food offering in the coolest space in the city.
Steven’s passion for fine dining saw him take a consultancy role at the very successful ‘Albina’ restaurant in Crosby which again, under Steven’s guidance, went onto gain a AA Rosette in 2014 and a cooking score of 8/10 by Marina O’Loughlin, the highest accolade ever given in the city. The consultancy side of the business has also helped a number of city centre food outlets and bars to create exciting and innovative food operations.
Steven’s vision of creating a truly cultural business has now very much taken shape and he has curated a team of likeminded and skilled individuals to help him take the business to the next level. Recent large scale events that we have won the tender for include the fine dining partner for Festival Number 6 in Portmeirion and Bluedot Festival at Jodrell Bank as well as fabulous weddings and private dining events all over the UK.
Northern Fields is now considered the ‘go to’ caterer for anyone wanting gastronomic and experimental catering in any environment.
